Scented Candles

Years ago, I was invited to a candle party. I wasn’t sure what to expect, I mean candles were candles, weren’t they? Much to my surprise, my understanding of candles opened up. No longer were candles just something to be purchased wherever but something that deserved a bit more thought.

Surprisingly for me, there was dozens of things about candles that I had no idea even existed. I didn’t know that you should always use a candle snuffer to help maintain the wick. I had no idea how to keep my candles looking nice or even how to get the longest life out of them.

Handmade Candles At ETSY

I am loving the recent candle selection at ETSY, where I’ve also found some beautiful candle holders. This “Barack O’Buddha Candle” by David Chalat is inscribed with the sacred mantra “Om..Yes We Can..Om” and weighs approximately 7.5 ounces and stands 5″ high and 3″ wide. It’s available scented with Nag Champa or Unscented. Buy it here. [...]

Candles For Football Fans

Just in time for Superbowl Sunday (or Valentine’s Day, for that matter), here are some candles for the football lover/fan in your life. Although there are lots of NFT team candles out there, in honor of Superbowl Sunday, I will only focus on two. For Cardinals fans: A set of two 2″ by 2″ white [...]

Handmade Candle Holders

I love ETSY, a website that specializes in hooking up buyers and sellers of all things handmade. I was browsing the candle holder section recently, and I came across some beauties. This blue and green glass candle holder is pretty alone, but when a lit candle is added, the arches and swirls are highlighted. The candle [...]

Indiana’s Larger-Than-Life Candle, Outlet Store

Centerville, Indiana, just might be home to the World’s Largest Candle. A candle the size of a large silo is part of the Warm Glow Candle Outlet. Located on Exit 145 just off Interstate 70, the outlet features free admission and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (call to verify: 765-855-2000). The outlet boasts [...]

Have Fun With Trick Birthday Candles

I’ll never forget my eighth birthday, when I had a slumber party and all my friends crowded around me while I blew out the candles on my cake. Imagine my surprise when, after making a wish and blowing out the candles…they re-lit like magic! Of course, now that I’m adult, I realize that it’s really [...]

Candle Safety 101

According to the National Candle Association (NCA), accidental candle fires account for approximately four percent of all U.S. residential fires (more than 15,000 candle fires are reported annually). According to fire experts, the bulk of candle-fire incidents are due to consumer inattention to basic fire safety or to the misuse of candles. Furthermore, a study by the [...]

Candles: What’s Your Type?

Candles are a lot like snowflakes (or people, for that matter)–they come in all shapes, sizes and colors. There are, however, some common candle types that every candle collector, enthusiast or fan should know about. Tapers Tapes are long, slender candles. They are typically six to 18 inches high and often found on tables in restaurants and [...]

Candle Fragrance Trends

Like a lot of things in life, candle scent preference is pretty subjective. Some may enjoy spicy scents, while others prefer florals, and still others might like candles with no scents at all. Tip: Use unscented candles in the dining room, so there are no scents to conflict with the aroma and enjoyment of your [...]

DIY Candle Making Safety

Last week I mentioned scented candles, and whenever I smell a scented candle, it reminds me of my childhood. My father, an ex-hippie, was very DIY back in the day. That included making his own custom candles. I was about five years old at the time, so I don’t remember much, but I do remember [...]
